A Fraction represents a part of a whole.

Quarter fraction is represented as follows.

Quarter represents 1 of 4 equal parts of the whole.

The number on the top is called a numerator and represents the part out of the whole and the number at the bottom represents the whole.

Yes, the shape shown here has a quarter of its area shaded. 

The shape is made up of 4 equal parts and only one of them is shaded. So 1 of 4 parts is shaded, that is one fourth area or quarter of the area is shaded.

2. A shape given below has 4 parts of different sizes and 1 part is shaded. Does the shape shown in the image below has a quarter of its area shaded?

No, in this shape though it has four parts and 1 part is shaded, but the 4 parts are not of equal size, the shaded area is smaller than some other parts, so in this case less than quarter area is shaded.

2. There are 20 stickers, 5 stickers are circular in shape and the remaining stickers are square shaped. What fraction of stickers are circular in shape?

The information given is:

There are 20 stickers in total

• 5 stickers are circular in shape
• Remaining stickers are square shaped

It is asked what fraction of stickers are circular in shape.

20 divided by 4 equals 5. 

One fourth of 20 equals 5.

One fourth of the stickers are circular in shape. 

One fourth is also referred as quarter.

In other words a quarter of the stickers are circular in shape.

3. What is a quarter of 8?

Quarter of 8 is 2. 

4. What is a quarter of 100?

Quarter of 100 is 25.

5. What is a quarter of 60?

Quarter of 60 is 15.
