Skip Counting by 5 - Explanation and Examples

What is skip counting?

Skip counting is a method of counting by a fixed number other than 1. Instead of counting by ones, skip counting involves counting by a specific interval.

The specific interval can be another number for example 2, 3, 5, 10 etc.

Skip Counting by 5

Skip counting by 5 involves counting numbers in increments of 5, that means when skip counting by 5, 5 is added to a number to get the next number.

Example of skip counting by 5 starting from 100

When skip counting by 5, 5 is added to a number to get the next number.

100 + 5 = 105,

105 + 5 = 110,

110 + 5 = 115 … and so on

100, 105, 110, 115, 120, 125… and so on.

Skip Counting by 5 starting from 21 will count as 21, 26, 31, 36… and so on.

Skip Counting by 5 - Practice Examples

What comes after 45 in the figure below?

In the above pattern each number is 5 more than previous number. The number after 45 will be 5 more than 45.

45 + 5 = 50

What comes next in the pattern below?

32,  37,  42,  47,  52,  ?

In the number pattern above adding 5 to a number gives the next number. The number after 52 will be 5 more than 52.

52 + 5 = 57

32,  37,  42,  47,  52,  57
