Tally Chart
A tally chart is a method of representing data using tally
marks.
Tally marks can be used to show the count of something.
A single count is represented with a vertical line, and every fifth
count is shown with a diagonal line.
Tally marks can be counted using count by 5s till the set of 5s are
there and then count by 1s for the remaining tally marks.
A tally chart is given here showing the number of goals the three
teams scored.
What is the score of Team C?
The third row in the tally chart represents the data for
Team C.
There are four set of 5 tally marks and then 1 more tally
mark.
Team C score can be skip counted till 20 (5,10,15, 20) and
then 1 more to 21.
Team C scored 21 goals.
What is the score of Team B?
Second row in the tally chart represents data
for Team B.
Tally marks for team B has 5 set of 5 tally
marks and then 2 more.
The tally marks can be counted using count by 5s
till the set of 5s are there and then count by
1s for the remaining tally marks.
Team B score can be skip counted till 25 (5, 10,
15, 20, 25) and then two more
25 + 2 = 27
Team B scored 27 goals.
How much more did Team B score compared to the Team C?
Team B scored 27 goals.
Team C scored 21 goals.
27 – 21 = 6
Team B scored 6 more goals compared to Team C.
