Telling Time to Nearest Minute - Analog Clock

Time to Nearest Minute – Practice Examples

Q1) What is the time in an analog clock shown here?

The short hand that is the hour hand of the clock, is in between 7 and 8.

That means the time is after 7 o clock and before 8 o clock.

So the time is 7 hour and some minutes.

The long hand, that is the minute hand of the clock is pointing in between 8 and 9.

If the minute hand is pointing exactly at a number the minutes can be skip counted by 5’s till the minute hand is reached.

If the minute hand is pointing in between the numbers like in this example then the minutes can be skip counted by 5’s till the number before the minute hand and then count by ones till the minute hand is reached.

The minutes here can be counted by 5s that is up to 40 minutes and then count by ones till 42 minutes.

The minute hand here is pointing at 42.

The time in this example is 7 hour and 42 minutes.

Q2) What is the time in an analog clock shown here?

The short hand that is the hour hand of the clock, is in between 5 and 6.

That means the time is after 5 o clock and before 6 o clock . The time is 5 hour and some minutes.

The long hand, that is the minute hand of the clock is pointing in between 4 and 5.

If the minute hand is pointing in between the numbers like in this example then the minutes can be skip counted by 5s till the number before the minute hand and then count by ones till the minute hand is reached.

The minutes here can be counted by 5s that is up to 20 minutes and then count by ones till 23 minutes.

The minute hand here is pointing at 23.

The time in this example is 5 hour and 23 minutes.
